A Marine veteran, and father of four, Ryan and his wife Lucie are proud to call Spotsylvania County their home.

As Commonwealth's Attorney, Ryan Mehaffey is defending the rule of law and making Spotsylvania a safer place for all to live and work.

Experience

Ryan Mehaffey has a proven track record of successfully prosecuting cases for over ten years, earning a reputation for being tough but fair.

Faith & Family First

Ryan and his family are parishioners at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Chancellorsville, where they faithfully worship each week.

Marine Veteran

In 2002, Ryan enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in Richmond, Virginia when he was only 17 years old after watching America be attacked by terrorists on 9/11.

Driven to Serve

After multiple deployments abroad and two meritorious promotions, Ryan left the Marine Corps as a Sergeant of Marines in 2008, having also completed a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, summa cum laude, through Campbell University at night.

Prepared & Tested

Ryan has successfully prosecuted hundreds of crimes in his career, including the 2022 case involving a five-codefendant triple homicide, which resulted in convictions for all codefendants and multiple life sentences for three codefendants.

As Commonwealth’s Attorney, Ryan Mehaffey supervises, trains, and mentors the trial attorneys serving in the Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney.

Now, Ryan seeks to bring his experience and compassionate leadership to the office of the Commonwealth's Attorney, where he will work tirelessly to fight crime and protect the rights of all Spotsylvania County residents.
